We are continually seeking truths. Now, if you believe that or not is irrelevant, you are. Often you choose to believe a lie because it is easier than researching the truth of the matter. Our own senses often trick us for what we perceive in the world that we walkthrough. You need to work to become observant. Being observant is both an art and a skill to learn.
Situations in our life are often colored by which lens we are viewing it from. Our preconceived ideas help shape what we are reading or seeing, usually to our detriment. When we do not take the time to analyze correctly, when we are agitated, when are adrenalin is pumping, our view becomes distorted.
When you can calmly look at a situation, you can look at and all the what-ifs and come to a conclusion closer to the truth. One good reason for after-action reports is to look at how a situation could have been handled better. Armchair analysts could very well be right in their analyst. Those in the position at the time had split seconds to come to a conclusion and may have judged incorrectly or hastily.
Age of information
The more I read about how we are in the information age, the more I conclude that it is doing more harm than good. For the simple reason of how much time is spent wading through the lies and half-truths put out there. For everything on the internet that I read, I am to the point where I keep in mind 99% of it, I consider a lie.
The news in all its outlets has always been about the headlines, and headlines are clickbait to thoughts they wish to push out to the populace. Often a truth so bent that the lie that is allowed. Few get past the headline to even read the fact written in an article.
At one time, I thought this was a downfall of man over time. I now realize the man has been hooked from the beginning of the written word. The truth often is only a small kernel that is hidden deep within the stories that you read.
Are books greater
This is where I feel the authors of books are better at putting out truths. Though in the last few decades, this has gone downhill. Depending on the subject matter, corrupt authors are actively working to change the narrative.
Now you may debate that authors have always worked to control the narrative. I would have to concede this point. The victors write history from their viewpoint. Finding the losers’ side of the story does not often happen until years later, if at all. Now when you get to read both sides of an encounter, then is when truths are often laid to bare. You can figure out what is narrative, what is truth, and what was used as a lie to control what is believed of the time.
Depending on the era that you are looking into, books often give a better perspective of the truth. Check to see what language the book was initially written in. Then what language was translated into and how often. For much can be lost in translation.
Building off the known
Now there are universal truths, baselines if you will, which even though they can be bent, will bring you back to reality. Gravity is one such thing. Gravity can be beaten with the right amount of power, but the truth for a human remains the same. How much gravity affects you is on a spectrum here on earth; what goes up must come down, is the core component of truth.
How that truth of gravity affects everything in itself has many other facts. Which compound the laws that govern gravity and how we view each of these truths. From the time we are born, gravity is part of our lives. We know its there, we may not know what to call it until later on in life, and then even later, after learning about it do we truly understand it.
Now take the concept of gravity and apply it to other areas of your life. How often did you know something to be true yet did not know why? How often has someone told you or read somewhere about a subject and went that is crazy? This comes down to the knowledge and perception that we learn through time and exploration of experience.
How do we determine the truth? How do we decide what to believe in? Is faith in what we consider real to be a truth? How often do you question what you believe in? Can your mind change with logical facts that come to a conclusion to show the truth? How often do you sit, question, analyze, look at what you believe compared to what you know?
Questioning the world around you should be a constant thing in your life, as you continue to grow in knowledge. Now, does one have to dwell on the subject of gravity day in and day out? No, that would be foolish. There are many universal truths that you can accept as reality, nuances along the way may ask of you to question them from time to time. The baseline of truth remains constant.
Having these baselines as you move forward allows you to judge situations based on the truths you already know. Creating a strong foundation for your knowledge to be built on.
Faith in what you believe
Here is where life gets twisted, and what you believe to be true can put you in direct conflict with your neighbor. Most men who work from a logical standpoint on things can agree on the truth of a matter. Where the line is crossed is when one knows the truth yet actively works to perpetuate the lie. Getting followers to believe in the lie until it becomes a truth to them.
This is dangerous territory, for it is what distorts what we believe to be true. This man is an expert; it must be true. This man lived through it; why would he lie to us. Our governments have our best interest in mind- Ha! We can look at plenty of scenarios, and it all comes down to which side you are on and what you believe.
Belief and a step further, your faith is a leading factor in how you accept the truth. You can even convince yourself you don’t believe in something. Like a person thinking they can fly off the top of a building under their own power. Often that is what you realize how wrong you were in your blatant disregard of the facts.
Face the facts
Where we are today both in the west and the east, people are not willing to face the facts. The masses have given up in the different ways of seeking the truth or knowing what the truth is. They do not wish to lift a finger in opposing the lies that are thrown at them always.
Some people believe the lies and become rebels with a cause they do not even understand. It is easier to go along with the heard of sheep than to become strong enough to withstand and force the sheep to flow around you.
Others have been beaten down generation after generation. No fire can be lit in their heart in mass to chargeback against the flow of what propaganda they are assaulted with.
Those of us who seek the truth are a minority. Do not forget that—stand firm in your beliefs and faith. In will carry you through the day.
