Today I am going to hit on a subject of style, an area I am weak on and working to better all the time. When I was in my teens and twenties, style was easy. T shirt and jeans keep it simple, work clothes most of the time when you are working sixty plus hours a week, does not leave time to get fancy. Going into my thirties it was still easy, being in the military simplifies your daily uniform and when off duty more often than not, again T shirt and jeans. Then life after military I let myself go in the weight department. I have talked about that before. The problem when you gain a tremendous amount of weight you often no longer care about your appearance and what once was even border line tolerable becomes horrid and it shows to the world you no longer care.
Now let us fast forward through a timeline, fit as a youth or chubby, either way you wake up one day and realize that you let yourself go or time to make a major change. It is time to lose the extra fat that is holding you back. Nutrition and fitness on track you start to burn through fat, you are focused, things are changing. You notice this change often when you finally start to look at yourself in the mirror. The problem is you do not look at yourself when dressed. You notice your clothes are looser and may hang a little more, never really taking stock that as your body transforms the clothes that you are wearing start to look horrible on you.
I want to tell you appearance matters, for no other reason than your own self esteem. Dress nicer you will feel better, dress like shit, you will still feel like shit and this will slow down you forward progression.
The big glaring issue as you lose the weight is how to keep up with style and not empty your wallet at the same time. Well I like thing simple, here is my simple advice: T shirt and jeans. Same as when you were a youth in normal day in day out wear. Start downsizing you T shirts, Black Wins, goes with everything, hardly every goes wrong, nice part as you down size you can turn those fat shirts into good rags for when you get your hands dirt working hard. In the pants department you don’t need expensive jeans, hit local farm store or second hand, pick of some cheap jeans they fit better. Yes, they are not well made, they will fall apart just from washing. It does not matter the goal is not be in them all that long anyway. Why buy a pair $50 pants when you a $9 pair will get you by?
Black T shirts and jeans or chino’s, keep it simple keep it cheap, keep downsizing. This will not only make you look better to others; it will help your own self esteem when you look in the mirror. People will treat you different. For no other reason that you look like you take care of yourself.
A few other things, all those printed shirts are not worth the time or money. They have their place; the place should not be your everyday style. Less you own of them the better. Yes, always exceptions, as in your representing your brand or the company brand you work for. Save your money till your down to the body you want. Next major one is carpenter jeans, yes, they are comfortable, and if they do well for the work you’re in, awesome, key here is the work. Out about on the town are not a time for these. Get a decent pair to wear when not working.
Keeping it simple an inexpensive and you downsize. Even when you hit the size you want it will carry you through the day. Those that need to dress professionally that is an article for another day. For now, keep it simple, find a good tailor, plan as you continue to downsize. Keep looking good, it will make life better for you.
